2
Why CARE? A recent survey of the department showed strong interest in research. The same survey showed frustration with the difficulties inherent in conducting research on top of existing responsibilities, without additional resources.
3
Research Interests Current Research Activities Research Interests of those not currently doing research DIVERSE! Research interests are well-balanced. People are doing an array of types of research, and people who want to do research are interested in a variety of research types
4
What are the barriers to conducting research?
Everyone needs more time! Those doing research identify funding and statistical support, while those looking to begin identify mentorship and idea development as needs
5
What Resources Would Help?
Full spectrum of resources desired by both current researchers and those who want to begin
6
What is CARE? CARE is a one-stop shop for department members who want help conducting research. Our goal is to simplify and streamline research endeavors in the department, and help make you more successful in your research.

We intend to readdress this a year from now and see the progress. We probably can help the bench research a year from now.

CARE must prioritize projects
How Does CARE Work? You bring the research idea: contact Bala & Valerie Present to the Physician Review Panel Modifications based on feedback and suggestions CARE sends proposal of resources to support you Provide CARE with regular updates on your progress CARE must prioritize projects As of today, bring ideas to CARE. DO NOT approach research staff individually. As convenient as it is to go straight to statistician or assistants for IRB writing, if you want to use CARE personnel it must come though from the top. We need to protect people’s time
10
What do you need to do? CARE is not a free ride Bring good ideas
Be willing to work CARE facilitates, does not replace Notify us about your success: publications, presentations, grants
11
CARE Financial Plan Currently CARE is staffed with people supported by departmental funds and research grants. By prioritizing projects, we will provide help to unfunded applicants. Applicants who have funds will be asked to pay for services according to an established fee schedule. Those submitting grants who intend to use CARE will be asked to budget money for CARE. Path for private donations *Resource allocation will be prioritized to projects that show promise. This will be the decision of the Physician Review Panel and ultimately the departmental chair. ** continuation of funding is contingent on several factors including progress made and potential to gain funding.
