1 Unit: Sound and Light Lesson 3: Wireless Communication Essential Questions: 1.) How do radio waves transmit information? 2.) How does a cell phone work? 3.) How does satellite communication work?

2 What are the two broadcasting signals?
A method of broadcasting signals by changing the amplitude of a wave is called amplitude modulation

3 A method of broadcasting signals by changing the frequency of a wave is called frequency modulation

4 How does a cell phone work?
Cell phones transmit and receive signals using high frequency microwaves.

5 A cell phone sends out microwaves tagged with a unique number.
2. A tower picks up the microwaves and sends it to a hub. 3.The hub sends the microwaves to a receiver (tower or hub). 4. The receiver transmits the signal to the receiving cell phone.

6 How does satellite communication work?
Communication satellites receive radio, television and telephone signals and relay the signals to receivers on Earth.
