What are the weights per grade?
Kindergarten – 55%
1st through 6th grade – 90%
7th and 8th – 99%
9th through 12th – 120%

8. Kindergarten
So, do you receive 55% in total funding for a kindergartener?
If you received 55% of say $6,000 per student, that would be $3,300
WPU $1, Other sources $2,816 = $4,568 = 76%

10. Three Student school Jimmy, John, Ringo & Paul
Jimmy is ‘enrolled’ all 180 days
John is ‘enrolled’ 150 days, John gets Mono (The kissing virus) and stops coming to school in the spring, the school can not get ahold of him, so.. After 10 days of absence the school is forced to un-enroll him. He then contacts the school after missing 40 days and is re-enrolled.
Ringo attends 90 days, then moves to Timbuctoo
Paul moves in from Albuquerque for the last 80 days of school and is enrolled
= 500 days / 180 school days =
is our prior year ADM

Our 4 students were all 4th graders, 90% of WPU value
prior year ADM x WPU weight 90% x WPU Value $3,184
x .9 x $3,184 = $7, is our funding for K-12
If we were using the old October 1st method, we would have had 3 students:
3 x .9 x $3,184 = $8,596.80
We could have thrown in Kinder, Middle school or High school to make it more complicated.

12. Four student school (Growth)
The next year we grow by 25%, we are now a 4 student school
October 1st is alive and well:
The state compares the prior year count 3 to the new year count 4
We receive funding for 1 additional 4th grader as the ‘growth’ piece
We then add our ADM funding total to the additional student
$7, $2, ($3,184 x .9) = $10,825.38
If we had additional grades, we would need to weight the growth.

13. This first year The state is figuring it out
With relatively new staff
The first few months of the year:
Based on the 2 prior year adm numbers FY14 & FY15, not last year FY16
The state will adjust to the ‘Prior Year ADM’ – timing unknown
October 1st count, the state will then adjust for ‘Growth’ – timing unknown
So, by December or January we should have our funding based on all the right numbers.

14. What can we do to minimize
Over enroll
New ‘cap’ maybe an ADM cap
Also, the state has let the school be paid for 5 additional students over cap in the past
In some cases more.
Fill vacated seats quickly
Change budgeting process
Set budget on ‘prior year ADM’, and let growth be good news.
