COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT Overview
A code of conduct provides behavioural guidelines for coaches to adhere to. The main purposes of the code of conduct is to encourage and maintain a high standard of coaching and ensure the physical, psychological and social development of a young person. Codes of conduct also promote fair and responsible behaviour by the coach towards young players – emphasising their position as a role model. The obligation of a coach is not only to develop better players/athletes, but also to develop better people. A sample code of conduct is on the next page, you can edit the language to use with coaches at your sport/club. You can also edit the head icon to insert your club badge. Rate this tool! Give us your feedback.

COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT
We all have a responsibility to promote high standards of behaviour in sport. ON AND OFF THE FIELD I WILL: Show respect to others involved in the game including match officials, opposition, players, coaches, managers, officials and spectators. Adhere to the laws and spirit of the game. Promote fair play and high standards of behaviour. Always respect the match official’s decision. Never engage in public criticism of the match officials. Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour. WHEN WORKING WITH YOUNG PLAYERS I WILL: Place the well-being, safety and enjoyment of young players above everything, including winning. Explain exactly what I expect of players and what they can expect from me. Never engage in or tolerate any form of bullying. Develop mutual trust and respect with every player to build their self-esteem. Encourage each player to accept responsibility for their own behaviour. Work with young players to establish a development plan that they understand. Ensure all activities I organise are appropriate for the players’ age and ability level. I agree to abide by these principles and do all I can to develop a positive learning environment for young people. Coach’s name: Club secretary: Date:
