Do NOT use the other two knobs (mirror clutch knobs)!

13 Setting up a Telescope 1. Go through the Equipment Checkout List to ensure you have all the necessary equipment. Tell the instructor immediately if anything is missing. 2. Mount the telescope using the 3 mounting bolts. 3. Do NOT plug in the telescope 4. Focus telescope on a distant object (the Moon or the top of Mt. Diablo). Sight it like a rifle using the top of the telescope tube. 5. Attach the finderscope, visual back and eyepiece 6. Collimate the finderscope (align it with Primary scope) 7. Put telescope in level position (pointing at horizon) 8. Tighten both clamps and do not loosen them until breakdown

14 Setting up a Telescope (continued)
9. Plug in the telescope and hand controller. Turn on the power. 10. Use electronic setup (Solar System Align if observing the Moon or SkyAlign method if observing anything else.) After pressing ENTER for the alignment method, wait 30 seconds for the telescope to download GPS information. 11. Put your accessory bin (with main telescope dust cover) back in the cabinet from which your telescope was stored. 12. Only use the paddle control to slew the telescope to center the moon (if Solar System Align) or 3 stars (if SkyAlign is selected). Be sure to choose 3 widely separated stars. 13. After centering the first object in the finder scope, press ENTER, then center the first object in the main telescope, and press ALIGN. If using Solar System Align, once you have centered the Moon you should be done. If using SkyAlign, repeat two more times for two more stars. 14. Slewing speed is controlled from the numeric keypad by selecting Speed in the lower right corner of the hand controller (9 is the fastest, 1 is the slowest)
