SUSTAINABLE RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROYECT
Funding from the World Bank credit (100 million USD in two stages) and GEF (USD 10 million) donation. Promote the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency in the agricultural sector. Promotion of the competitiveness of agricultural activities. Reducing the impact of agriculture on the environment (water, air and soil)
3
FIRCO PROMOUTING AGRIBUSSINES
AGRI-BUSINESS (Agriculture, livestock, aquaculture, fisheries and agro-industry) Vision: By using and investing in renewable energy are economically sustainable.

FIRCO´S SUPPORTED TECHNOLOGIES
Biomass utilization Anaerobic Digesters Gasification Biogas and syngas use Electric generators Turbines Photovoltaic Solar photovoltaic off the grid Solar photovoltaic conected to the grid Solar heaters Evacuated tube solar collectors Concentrating solar systems Flat-plate solar collectors Energy efficiency High-efficiency heating Advanced electric motor drives Efficient lighting
5
BENEFITS OF USING BIODIGESTERS
Environment Reducing greenhouse gas emissions Reducing water pollution Use of by-products Improvement of the habitat Energy Generate electricity by using biogas Reducing de use of fossil fuel Economic Reducing and sometimes avoided cost of electricity Avoided cost of electricity Reduction of the payment of duties and fines by digester discharges Social Employment generation Producers and workers training Minimize odors and pathogens
6
BENEFITS OF USING BIODIGESTERS
Swine wastewater and its treatment characterization. Waste water from pig farms is a high variation in the concentration of pollutants. The use of anaerobic digesters of liquids and solids with high hydraulic retention times, greatly improved the treatment of effluents from pig farms. ↓ 96.4% Chemical Oxygen Demand COD Total Suspended solids TSS Biochemical Oxygen Demand BOD COD TSS BOD

IRRIGATION WHIT EFFLUENT
Irrigation with effluent The effluent of bio-digesters is prohibited for irrigation of vegetables and other crops of short stem. Practically 100% of the effluent of bio-digesters for agricultural irrigation is used in the livestock production units.

CONCLUSIONS Mexico has experience in swine and dairy biodigesters
FIRCO´s main goal it is implementing biodigesters for renewable energy, however, this technology has a collateral benefits, such as pre water treatment. It´s necessary a good biodigesters management in order to improve the water quality. Effluents may used for long stem crops and pastures. For delivering effluents to rivers and artificial ponds, it is necessary have a second water treatment.
