You may want to record your machine in action or take photos of each part. Please turn in a drawing of your plans even if it happens after you complete your design. Family support is encouraged!
September’s STEAM Challenge: “Rube Goldberg Machine”
Greetings Future Engineers !
Your challenge is to create a Rube Goldberg Machine! Have you played Mouse Trap? Maybe you’ve seen a cartoon where a ball travels down a ramp, which then bumps a set of dominoes, which then knocks a bucket of water over, etc.
Every Rube Goldberg Machine is made of a series of simple machines that help pass energy from beginning to end. The end result is the goal.
We would like you to pop a balloon for this challenge! You need to have at least 7 different steps. The challenge will be to see who can get the most steps in their “machine” in order to pop a balloon.
With your parent, please check out YouTube videos of Rube Goldberg Machines for inspiration and ideas. Below is a cool Honda car commercial.

1. Make a chart of the 6 simple machines & illustrate each
(Wheel/Axle, Wedge, Screw, fulcrum/lever, pulley, inclined plane)
2. Print 2-3 photos of your Machine design
3. On a DVD - Record your Machine in action!
