Multi-Stage Testing Section 1: 20 Questions How does it work?

Opening Statement: One of the things that makes the GRE so unique is multi-stage testing or MST. Let’s talk through what this means and how this affects the Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning sections, for example, that you will see on Test Day. For both the Verbal and Quantitative sections, you’ll start with a 20-question section Based on the number of questions you answer correctly in this 1st Quantitative or Verbal section, the test will choose a 2nd section that matches your ability level The better you do on the first section, the harder your second section will be The harder your second section is, the higher the score range you’ll be able to achieve Your GRE score is based on the on both the number of questions you answer correctly AND the difficulty level of the questions you answer correctly So for example, if you get a harder 2nd scored Quantitative section, those questions will be worth more points when you get them correct There is no wrong answer penalty on this test: only questions answered correctly score you points Transition: Now that you know a bit more about the GRE, let’s take a look at all the different course options Kaplan offers!
