10. Validating the Need
Recent literature supports the idea that student involvement in collecting oral histories and historical documents, preserving them, and digitizing them leads to greater student engagement, increased understanding, and investment in purposeful research and writing (Dayton-Wood, 2012; Siler, 1996).

-embedded existing oral history videos on social work “pioneers” into online course shells as a class enrichment.
-working on training right now.

-hoping to get two interviews done this semester and next and to feature these as teaching enhancements in the spring 2016 semester.
-beginning to work with a small set of students to begin collecting oral histories of social work/human service workers from our area

17. Human Diversity - Pham
-piloted oral history in our Human Diversity course (MSW level) for students to interview people with different background from them.
-had the students go through 2 hours of interview training using an guided oral history interview schedule.

-students practiced with each other before interviewing participants who were current and former FDI scholars at Cal.
-interviews were recorded and transcribed by the students. 
-total of six graduate students participated in this project.
