MAINTENANCE PREVENTIVE_
Approximately 80% of the dirt and soiling that has to be cleaned off a floor has been trafficked in from outside the building More than 90% of that soiling can be avoided by the use of an effective entrance matting system. When less dirt is trafficked through the entrance there will be a reduction in maintenance requirements Regular cleaning is more cost-effective and hygienic than occasional heavy-duty cleaning Wipe up any grease and oil spills immediately and treat stains as soon as they are observed Black rubber wheels and rubber furniture feet can discolour the floorcovering. Hard plastic is preferred. Always follow the manufacturer’s dosage instructions regarding the use of cleaning chemicals.

POST-INSTALLATION SITE CLEAN_
MAINTENANCE POST-INSTALLATION SITE CLEAN_ Floor maintenance begins immediately after the completion of installation The initial step is to remove any loose dirt or debris using a dry mop, broom or vacuum Sand, construction debris and sharp-edged objects may result in irreparable damage being inflicted to the new floor Remove any visible adhesive residue using a damp cloth. Once the adhesive has cured it will be difficult to remove If other trades are working in the building after the installation of the flooring, the floor must be protected from subsequent damage by the use of thick paper, cardboard or hard board No wet maintenance must take place until 72 hours (3 days) have elapsed from the time of installation (this is to ensure that the adhesive has sufficient time to cure properly and develop full bond strength)

VACUUMING AND PILE LIFTING_
MAINTENANCE VACUUMING AND PILE LIFTING_ Vacuum the floor daily using a heavy-duty vacuum cleaner with a power-driven brush or beater. Do not use a pile lifting programme for cut-pile carpets on Renaissance Carpet Tiles. IMPORTANT NOTE Frequent cleaning of the filters and maintenance of the machine is of vital importance to ensure optimum performance at all times The frequency of vacuuming will depend on the traffic intensity, propensity of soiling and the type of equipment used
9
VACUUMING AND PILE LIFTING_
MAINTENANCE VACUUMING AND PILE LIFTING_ It is important that the soil, grit and dirt particles are thoroughly removed; if not, they will rapidly and irreparably damage the carpet fibres A pile-lifting programme for cut-pile carpets will lift and open the pile, assisting with the removal of embedded soil Care must be taken with this type of equipment as incorrect use can result in damage to the pile substrate, more specifically on loop-pile carpeting such as Renaissance.
10
MAINTENANCE DAILY SPOT REMOVAL_
Remove as much solid residue as possible with a blunt knife or spatula as soon as possible after the spill Blot up any spills or remaining liquid with absorbent plain white paper or cloth Use the recommended removal agent for the particular spill Do not over-wet and blot up frequently, working from the outside of the spot towards the centre When using a new spot removal agent, always test on an inconspicuous area (under or behind a piece of furniture) Apply a few drops of the solution and rub gently with a clean white towel If any colour is transferred to the towel, or a colour change occurs on the carpet, this spotting agent must not be used
11
MAINTENANCE SPRAY PAD CLEANING_
Pre-soak pads of a rotary shampoo machine with a special detergent solution Pre-spray the soiled area with the same solution Run the machine over the carpet surface to ensure the pads absorb the soil, emulsified and held in suspension by the detergent solution, from the carpet It is important to replace the pads frequently to ensure proper removal of the soil, otherwise spreading of the soil will occur
12
DEEP RESTORATIVE CLEANING_
MAINTENANCE DEEP RESTORATIVE CLEANING_ From time to time a deep clean will be necessary. We recommend the “Spray Extraction” process, also wrongly referred to as “Steam Cleaning”. It is imperative that deep-cleans be carried out by qualified commercial cleaners, and that their equipment is in good working condition Vacuum the floor thoroughly using a heavy-duty vacuum cleaner with a power-driven brush or beater Spots should be pre-treated before a deep clean Use the correct cleaning agent in the correct quantity (one that leaves no sticky residue) If too much, or the incorrect detergent is used, a residue will be left in the carpet fibre, which will accelerate re-soiling Avoid over-wetting - in this respect the correct and properly maintained equipment is vital Chemicals and detergents should be effectively rinsed from the carpet
