By using Voltage encryption, only the intended recipients can view the confidential information contained. For the purpose of this training course there are two types of Voltage user defined: A DoE user is defined as an employee with the Department of Energy (DoE) within the Government of Alberta, who has an address ending A Non-GoA user is defined as an individual who is not with the DoE and does not have an address ending To the Voltage Online Training Course

2 In this module, you will learn: What Voltage is

4 Usage Overview Diagram
DoE and Non-GoA users can send encrypted to each other by creating a new message through the process described in this training course. A Non-GoA user is able to do this using the Voltage Zero Download Messenger which explained in detail on the next page. A DoE user has the ability to reply securely to an encrypted from a Non-GoA user. As well, a Non-GoA user can reply to an encrypted message from a DoE user and it will also be sent securely.

5 Zero Download Messenger
The Voltage Zero Download Messenger provides Voltage encryption in a Web-based interface, enabling DoE and Non-GoA users to send, receive, forward, and reply to secure messages with no additional software required. Secure is delivered to the user’s inbox and can be decrypted with any web browser.

6 Non-GoA User Send and Reply Diagram
Figure A: A Non-GoA user can send encrypted s to multiple recipients but must include at least address for encryption to work. Figure B: If a Non-GoA user sends to multiple recipients and NONE of them are address then encryption will not take place. This prevents Non-GoA users from using DoE encryption for purposes not associated with the Government of Alberta.
