Techknow (Pass it on) How many phones do you think are in use around the world? 5 Billion There are over 5 billion mobile phones currently in use around the world. In richer countries, people change their phones on average every 18 months.

By 2020 approximately 10 million tonnes of electronic products purchased in UK. Equivalent to 4 million ??? The 10 million tonnes includes 20 tonnes of gold & 400 tonnes of silver. This gold is equivalent to ??? Average weight of a 5 year old is 20kg, so the weight of 1000 children (gold). Stats from One quarter will be IT Equipment/ Consumer electronics. Estimated value of £1.5 billion

Techknow (Pass it on) What happens if you put unwanted electrical/ electronic equipment in your bin? Electronic and Electrical Equipment contain metals such as cadmium, lead and nickel. If these are put in the refuse bin, they will end up in landfill which is a waste of raw materials.

In certain countries there can be significant problems with pollution, child labour, working conditions and armed conflict. (also problems with disposal if not disposed of correctly).
