The Human Body By: Lydia Year 5 Yellow
2
The Heart The heart pumps blood around the body and beats faster when we exercise. Arteries carry blood away from the heart and veins carry blood to the heart.
3
The Lungs The lungs supply oxygen to the body.
When we breathe in we take in oxygen. We breathe out carbon dioxide. It is a waste product. The left lung is slightly smaller to make room for the heart.
4
The Brain The human brain is like a powerful computer that stores our memory and controls how we think and react. The brain is the centre of the human nervous system, controlling our thoughts, movements, memories and decisions.
5
Digestive System The human digestive system is a complex series of organs and glands that processes food. In order to use the food we eat as energy, our body has to break the food down into smaller molecules that it can process; it also has to excrete (or get rid of) waste.
6
The Skeleton Our skeleton is made from bones. Joints and muscles help us move. As we grow, our bones grow too. Our skull protects our brain and our ribs protect our heart and lungs.
