Introduction All need comfort at times Some are miserable comforters
Lord (John 11:19, 31) Comfort one another (1 Thessalonians 4:18; 5:11, 14) Some are miserable comforters Job’s friends (Job 2:9, 11-13; 16:2) What about us?

Drugs Promise escape and relief Instead, they add to the problem Enslaves the user (2 Peter 2:18, 19) Leads to other sins Babies born with addiction problems

Alcoholic beverages Number ONE drug problem Leads to alcoholism, death of self and others Cost to society in the millions Sin (Galatians 5:19-21; 1 Peter 4:3) “Alcohol has many defenders but no defense” (Abraham Lincoln)

Premarital and extramarital sex Sex before marriage only promises pleasure (Hebrews 11:25; 13:4) Adultery is a betrayal of vows (Proverbs 5:15-20; Ecclesiastes 5:5) Sexual relations to be in marriage (1 Corinthians 7:1-7) Sin (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)

False Religions The who are suffering turn to them
Makes them “feel good” Do what they are told Usually end up “lining someone’s pockets” (2 Peter 2:3)

False Religions Cannot be saved in them
Many will think they are right (Matthew 7:21-23) However, they have obeyed another gospel (Galatians 1:6-10)

False Religions Not any real comfort
Leaders are blind guides (Matthew 15:13, 14) Need to examine all teaching (1 John 4:1) Not all are unscrupulous men

Conclusion No comfort like God’s Are you a child of God?
