FINLAND

General information Capital: Helsinki
Official languages: Finnish and Swedish Population: 5,5 million Form of government: Republic Helsinki harbour in the evening

Location Nordic country in the Fennoscandia in Northern Europe.
Neighbouring countries are Sweden, Norway and Russia.

Area Finland is quite a flat country, the highest point is the Halti at 1,324 metres. It's also ”the land of thousands lakes”. The largest lake is Saimaa, which is also the fourth largest in Europe. Lake Saimaa

Finnish culture We Finns describe Finland with words cold, sauna and sisu. Cold, because our winter is really long and freezing. Sauna, because it's Finland’s pride and joy. And ”sisu” is something we Finns have, a psychological power inside of us. But we have even more to offer; like Finnish food, music and nature.

Random facts Finland also has the top of the line public transit, technology and education. We don't wear shoes inside. Santa lives in the Northern part of Finland (at Korvatunturi).

Finnish people The Finnish population has been focused to Southern Finland, near the coast. Finns seem to be reserved and shy at first, but we are funny and polite people. We Finns are crazy about ice hockey, sauna, winter sports, nature, salty liquorice and rye bread. And just like in other countries, we love to make fun of other countries!

Sports The most popular sports are ice hockey, cross- country skiing, downhill skiing, Finnish baseball and football Finnish national hockey team in the Olympics 

Nature Finnish nature is various; there are thousands of lakes and a lot of forests which have many types of berries, mushrooms and wild animals. In Finland there are four seasons; a sunny spring, warm summer, rainy autumn and freezing and snowy winter.
