1 Collaboration in Ministry The WAYS OF THE SENT
Barbara Humphrey McCrabb, MDiv

2 “This will require creativity in adapting to changed situations, carrying forward the legacy of the past not primarily by maintaining our structures and institutions, which have served us well, but above all by being open to the possibilities which the Spirit opens up to us and communicating the joy of the Gospel, daily and in every season of our life.”

5 A working definition of collaboration…

6 THE WAYS OF THE SENT Simple Direct Pro-active Outward-focused Pastoral
Collaborative Merciful Joyful Faith-filled Witnessing

7 PRO-ACTIVE What about you? What are you going to do? …every Christian by virtue of baptism, has received a mission. Each one of us has to respond, as best we can, to the Lord’s call to build up his Body, the Church.

8 PRO-ACTIVE - CHARACTERISTICS
There is movement for the apostles who are told “Go and make disciples” or the seventy-two who are directed “go on your way” Pope Francis speaks of a missionary vigor that moves us. By virtue of our baptism, we have a mission to respond to God’s call with high ideals. We are sent in the great commission by Jesus and the Holy Spirit to announce peace to this house, healing and that the Kingdom of God is at hand.

9 Scripture PRO-ACTIVE Go and make disciples (Matthew 28:16-20)
The Mission of the Seventy-two (Luke 10:1-9)

10 PRO-ACTIVE – PASTORAL STRATEGIES

11 PRO-ACTIVE – PASTORAL STRATEGIES
Persistence Discernment Creativity Strategies: As you hear this particular way, what images emerges for you? Are there things that come to mind that would help you be more proactive? Our suggestions…. Persistence – “missionary vigor” puts us on the move, it means not waiting around for people to come to us, looking for opportunities … a whole new meaning to “practicing Catholic” to pray unceasingly Respond – we act… but it is a response – God loves us first and calls us to the body of Christ, with God’s love – we respond… as Katharine Drexel with high ideals, enthusiasm Creativity – to Announce the Kingdom requires cultivating a sense of creativity and innovation to access a fitting approach in a given circumstance – peace to this house… we are called to be a peace maker, -cure the sick… offering healing and comfort in the face of great suffering and hurt - teaching them to observe all that I have commanded Cardinal Wuerl – the message has not changed, our method should change / adapt

12 OUTWARD FOCUSED “Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus: we no longer say that we are ‘disciples’ and ‘missionaries’, but rather that we are always ‘missionary disciples.’"

13 OUTWARD FOCUSED - CHARACTERISTICS
The Church is commissioned to announce the mercy of God. To go out to everyone, without exception. Open our hearts to those living on the outermost fringes of society Sent in the great commission into the world

16 WITNESSING “We accompany, we follow Jesus, but above all we know that he accompanies us and carries us on his shoulders. This is our joy, this is the hope that we must bring to this world of ours. Let us bring the joy of faith to everyone.”
