1 Petroleum Geochemistry using Wireline Logs “LogGeoChem”
TERRASCIENCES

2 Why buy LogGeoChem? Save time and expense by pre-selecting cuttings and core samples to be analyzed. Detect and analyze previously unrecognized source rocks. Evaluate areas with no cuttings or core. Help identify stratigraphic sequence boundaries. Look at data from wells where “bit induced metamorphism” destroys organic carbon.

3 Where to use LogGeoChem?
Frontier areas around the world. Single well studies in the absence of drilled rock samples. Areas needing generated volumetrics. Field and basin-wide studies. Anywhere with a need to evaluate hydrocarbon generation potential.

4 Who should buy LogGeoChem?
Exploration Managers. Exploration Geologists. Geochemists. Sequence stratigraphers. Anyone with a need to evaluate hydrocarbon generation potential.

5 Cost Benefits Software cost is comparable to 2-3 wells’ worth of laboratory analyses. Indirect time saving of laboratory personnel in not analyzing “undesirable” samples.

6 Technical Details ... Uses a traditional log suite as input: Gamma ray
Caliper Neutron Porosity Bulk Density Sonic Delta-T Three resistivity curves

7 Technical details ... Additional required data items are:
Bottom hole temperature Mud weight Specific gravity of the generated hydrocarbon Thickness of removed overburden Rhob matrix shale value Delta T matrix shale value Gamma ray clean and shale end points.

8 Technical Details ... Four primary computed outputs:
TOC - total organic carbon. S1 - volume of previously generated HC. S2 - remaining volume of HC generation potential. S3 - Carbon dioxide released during pyrolysis. (GP = S1+S2)

9 Technical Details ... Secondary computed values include:
HI - Hydrogen Index (S2 / TOC * 100) OI - Oxygen Index (S3 / TOC * 100) AOC - Atomic Oxygen/Carbon ratio. AHC - Atomic Hydrogen/Carbon ratio. S2/S3 ratio - indicator of oil/mixed/gas proneness. S1/(S1+S2) - indicator of thermal maturation.

10 Technical Details ... S1/(S1+S2) is used to compute maturation:
LOM - Level of Organic Metamorphism. TAI Thermal Alteration Index. Tmax - degrees C from S2 pyrogram. TTI Time-Temperature Index. Ro% - Vitrinite Reflectance.

11 Technical Details ... Graphical displays include: van Krevelen diagram
Modified van Krevelen diagram TOC vs. S2 graph Any other crossplot combination such as TOC vs. depth Zone summations of key properties

13 Key Benefits Allow analysis for hydrocarbon potential in areas with no core or cuttings available. Save time and money by “pre-selecting” samples to be analyzed in the lab. Compute generated volumes, estimate expelled volumes, and compare to reservoir volumes. World wide applications.

14 Additional benefits Can be added on to TerraStation II to allow:
Multiple well analysis. Study of data in a regional context. Mapping, zonation, volumetrics. Cross section presentations. Composite well presentations. Available on Windows 95, 98, NT, XP, or UNIX.

15 Additional benefits Can be purchased as a “stand alone” version:
Software contains data import and export. Complete LogGeoChem features. Produces geochemists crossplots.

16 How to buy LogGeoChem. Contact any TERRASCIENCES office.
Ask for “Sales”. Tell them you want to buy, lease or rent the Petroleum Geochemistry module.
