Compact excavator for work on railways
MX16 RAIL & MX20 RAIL are factory-fit solutions, ready to work on railway tracks, offering compactness, stability and flexibility. These three factors are crucial for its efficiency when working on the railway network. The compact upper carriage on MX16 RAIL enables work on double-track railways without disturbing the traffic on the other track. The MX 20 RAIL is designed for heavy lifts, and on the same time is the most compact rail excavator in the +20 ton segment Both machines are very stable and has a great lifting capacity, while being the most compact machines on the market Flexible because the work can be done both in the cat. 2 (EN 9B) and cat. 3 (EN 9C) state ("high" or "low" rail). Most competitors can either work in cat. 2 OR cat. 3. 31/10/2016 Hydrema - Moving earth since 1959

Category 2 The machine's tires are lifted 100 mm from the tracks. The rail wheels are fully pressed against the rubber tires. The tires hereby transmit forces to the rail wheels that transfer it to the rail track. Damage to the track sensors and track shifters are avoided. Parking brake work directly on the rail wheels. Categori 3 The machine’s rubber tires runs directly onto the tracks, whereby the traction is maximized. The rail wheels runs with a constant pressure control and suspension transferring 3.6 tons of weight via the rail wheels. This is equivalent to having 30 bar of pressure in the rail wheel cylinders. 31/10/2016 Hydrema - Moving earth since 1959

Robust og modular The under carriage is the same modular chassis as on the standard wheeled excavator models MX14-18. There is mounted a front and a rear rail module. It is possible to install standard dozer blade or outriggers on excavators instead of the rail modules. 31/10/2016 Hydrema - Moving earth since 1959

Scrapers are mounted to remove rocks and dirt from the rail wheels.
The front rail module is positioned high in order to achieve a good clearance when the rail wheels are raised = 285 mm. Oscillating front axle ± 2.5 °. A legislative requirement (EN standard). Scrapers are mounted to remove rocks and dirt from the rail wheels. Disc brakes on rail wheels. Trailer coupling and fittings for air brakes on trailer. 31/10/2016 Hydrema - Moving earth since 1959

Rear rail module is positioned high for good clearance when rail wheels are raised = 300 mm. The module is parallel-moving by strong tubes for high torsional stiffness. Scrapers to remove rocks and dirt from the rail wheels. Disc brakes on rail wheels. Trailer coupling. BM manual hitch in order to mount a BM shovel, so for instance various attachments can be carried along with the machine. 31/10/2016 Hydrema - Moving earth since 1959

When engaging the parking brake, this both engages the brake in the transmission as well as the disc brakes on the individual rail wheels. The service brake consists of standard brakes in the wheel hub (of the rubber tires) The disc brakes on the rail wheels are only mounted to hold the machine when switching from cat. 2 and Cat. 3 (high and low rail). Or if parked in cat. 2 and the machine sinks into the cylinders, so that the tires do not fully touch the rail wheels. 31/10/2016 Hydrema - Moving earth since 1959

Trelleborg T 900 Alliance/Galaxy EX Tires: MX16 RAIL Alliance/Galaxy EX (outer). Trelleborg T (inner) to run on the tracks and the rail wheels. Trelleborg T (both outer and inner wheels) Rail wheels: Strong rail wheel with diameter of 650mm Can be re-worked if worn Excellent traction Self cleaning 31/10/2016 Hydrema - Moving earth since 1959

To ensure that the steering wheel cannot be accidentally operated during travel on rails, there is mounted a steering wheel lock. 31/10/2016 Hydrema - Moving earth since 1959

Slew brake can be released. Slew right and left.
Inner boom, outer boom and dipper can be raised. Rail modules can be run downwards. Lowering the boom, outer boom, dipper and raising of the rail modules is done by loosening the emergency venting screw on the hose break check valves. Attention: must be unscrewed the same amount! 1 rev. = 228 bar. 31/10/2016 Hydrema - Moving earth since 1959

In addition to the standard display, there is mounted Rail switch
Prolec display Camera monitor. The 2 cameras are placed on top the rear counterweight and the side engine bonnet. Prolec supervisor and override key. 31/10/2016 Hydrema - Moving earth since 1959

PME400 (standard) Height limiter Slew limiter (virtual wall) PMERail (option) RCI – rated capacity indicator 31/10/2016 Hydrema - Moving earth since 1959
14
Height limiter stops the excavator arm at a set height,
so you do not hit for instance electric wires. Stopped movements are indicated with red arrows. So you can see whereto the excavator can be moved. When the excavator is approaching the limit (500 mm), an text appears: "close to max height" + mode control is activated. 31/10/2016 Hydrema - Moving earth since 1959
15
Slew limiter stops the Excavator at set angles of PME 400, in order not to swing into obstacles.
On PMERail (RCI) the excavator movement stops if you come outside a set distance from the center of the rails. The distance is freely adjustable to both sides. 31/10/2016 Hydrema - Moving earth since 1959
