11 Suspected Measles Outbreak Investigation, Kpaytuo Community, Saclepea District

12 Introduction Measles is highly contagious
Attack rate in a exposed individual is 90% Transmission occurs person to person On the 15th of October, 2015 we got a call from Kpaytuo Health center of 5 cases of suspected measles. We investigated to Establish if there was an outbreak Verify the outbreak Carry out active case search Commence response

13 Methods Kpaytuo community, has a population of 4,676
One health facility A case was defined as any person with high fever and rashes with or without running nose, eye red and cough, between 1st October and 17th October, 2015 The team carried out One on one interview Active case search in the community Collected blood specimen from 5 active cases

14 RESULTS Of the 22 cases 13 (59%) were females Median age is 13 (2-37)years No death Attack rate 47/10,000 population 2 (9%) were fully vaccinated Index case is a 15year old farmer, with no history of recent travels(his son became infected) All 5 blood specimen were positive for measles Two-day selective measles vaccination was done

16 Discussion The outbreak was confirmed It affected females more
Most of the cases have never been immunized Seems to have subsided (no new cases have been identified) Health education seems to be effective in curbing the spread of the disease
