4 HEARING is the process wherein sound waves strike the eardrum and cause vibrations that are transmitted to the brain.

5 LISTENING occurs when (i) the brain reconstructs these electrochemical impulses into a representation of the original sound and (ii) GIVES THEM MEANING.
