Physical Features The Gobi Desert is located in the north part of China, south of Mongolia. The other great desert found in China is the Taklimakan Desert. The Yellow Sea is located east of South Korea. It is used for fishing.

How is China’s population distributed
How is China’s population distributed? What areas have more people, and why? What areas have less people and why? Please include examples and pictures China’s population is distributed mainly to the east by the Pacific Ocean. Less people live in the middle western because there is not that much water and resources.
6
China’s Rivers Huang He, yellow River begin in the mountainous plateau of Tibet. Pronounced “who-ong he” Flows towards the east and empties into the Yellow Sea Why is the Huang He River called the Yellow River? Because yellow dust blows out of the Gobi Desert. It is carried as loess (loess)
10
How does it Affect the Lives of the People??
Creates rich soil for the farmers in the area Transports people and goods Annual flooding, which can make conditions along river’s path dangerous The frequent flooding has led some to call the Huang He “China’s Sorrow”
11
Yangtze river (pronounced “yang see”)
12
Yangtze River China’s longest River
Pollution: Millions of gallons of sewage are dumped into the river, along with chemical run-off from factories and farming. This puts all cities along the river at risk, and has caused fish to die.
13
Mekong River
14
Three Gorges Dam Hydroelectric project designed to bring electricity to China’s rural areas For Chinese workers rapid industrialization has meant many have left their rural homes to find work in over crowded cities
15
Natural Resources Most of these countries depend on agriculture to feed their growing populations China’s most important resources are agriculture and coal.
16
Pollution and Environmental Concerns
Major cities have grown in population and industry Much of China’s energy is from burning coal, which sends chemicals into the air The leading causes of death in China are respiratory and heart diseases tied to long exposure to air pollution Acid Rain: Occurs when chemicals in the air react with moisture in the atmosphere and fall to the ground as rain = harmful to plants, animals, and buildings
17
Asian Brown Cloud
18
Indus River Between the countries of INDIA and PAKISTAN
