Concept of Eco Saving : ISG with Auto Brake system
Product Name Eco Saving (ISG with Auto Brake system) Manufactured/ Distributed by: H.I Motors ( Korea) Product Type Electronic Idling Stop & Go + Brake Holding System Main control box // solenoid valve x 2 // connecting cables // ON/OFF switch Product Package ISG (Idle Stop & Go) = ISG is a system that switches off the engine when stationary at the traffic light or due to heavy traffic for more than 5 seconds, and switches the engine back on instantly when the accelerator pedal is pressed to resume driving. By restricting idling, the system reduces production of pollutants and saves fuel cost. Hyundai Kia Motor announced that engine-off during idling could improve fuel efficiency at least min.10%. ISG Function (Idle Stop & Go) The Auto Hold function, the most advanced supplementary safety device, maintains the brake function of the car when the engine is switched off during stopped in traffic, or on a down hill. Press the brake pedal once and release to enable the Auto Hold function to maintain the brake function. Once the accelerator pedal is depressed, the brake function is released. Auto Hold Function

Background of Development
Healthy Earth and Life of Human Increase in CO2 emission – greenhouse gas, climate changes – emission gas from car is the largest contributor. Rising water levels – melting glacier and rising temperature – disappearing glacial habitat Threatened ecosystem – the extinction of a species of animal and plant Global warming – spreading diseases, threatening human health Abnormal climate – drought, flood, desertification Necessity CO2 emission, the largest contributor to global warming must be reduced. - by introducing international regulations such as Kyoto Protocols, by voluntary measures by each country. Air pollution by rapid increase in number of cars (Car fumes accounts for more than 80% of air pollution in major cities.) We need to pass down clean earth to future generations. We need to protect the environment and reduce fuel cost (by 7% - 38%) We can reduce pollutant by max 25% by limiting idling (40,000 tons of pollutant a year) Harmful Effect of Idling Idling while stationary produces 4 times as many pollutants as when a car is in motion. - An idling engine is not operating at its peak temperature (it is operating at ºC when idling) and the catalytic converter - the device that cleans pollutants from the vehicle's exhaust - only functions at the 10% efficient rate at this temperature. As a result, idling produces 6.5 times as many carbon monoxide and 2.5 times as many hydrocarbon as when a car is in motion.

Background of Development
ISG (Idle Stop & Go) = ISG is a system that switches off the engine when stationary at the traffic light or due to heavy traffic for more than 5 seconds, and switches the engine back on instantly when the accelerator pedal is pressed to resume driving. By restricting idling, the system reduces production of pollutants and saves fuel cost. Hyundai Kia Motor announced that engine-off during idling could improve fuel efficiency at least min.10%. International Background & Cases Sweden – Self-regulated by major cities. More than 1 minute of idling is penalized. Germany – Idling is banned by sign posts. From the 3rd car waiting at a traffic light must stop the engine. Japan (Hyogo-hyun) –Non-idling zones are in operation. Non-conformity is subject to fine. Canada (Toronto) – Idling for more than 3 minutes is banned for all cars. (auto engine stop – re-ignition to start) Denmark (Copenhagen) –Idling for more than 1 minute is banned. New York – Diesel buses and trucks -> Idling for more than 5 minutes is banned. Island – Driver can not leave his/her car while idling.

Effects for Environment
Applications and Effects Applicable to: Cars driving in cities where frequent ‘stop and drive’ cannot be avoided. Cars driving in heavy traffic areas Cars on frequent waiting like taxis or delivery trucks Large vehicle or cars with heavy exhaust gas like buses, lorries Cars on low fuel efficiency Drivers who care for energy conservation and environment Effects for Environment Reduced idling by one hour results in reduction of CO2 production by 500g to 1kg. No idling at crossroads can reduce CO2 production by 19-37%. 15 million cars in Korea – reduction of idling by 30 minutes per car a day can reduce 100,000 bottles (500litre) of CO2 production. Can prevent global warming from causing natural disasters hence avoiding social and environmental costs.

CO2 emission by Idling (converted to the quantity of Carbon)
Environmental Pollution by Idling CO2 emission by Idling (converted to the quantity of Carbon) Vehicle Type Per 10 minutes Per 1 hour Passenger car (gasoline) (90g) (510g) Small truck (2t diesel) (58g ~ 87g) (360g ~ 500g) Medium truck (4t diesel) (94g ~ 120g) (580g ~ 720g) Large truck (10t diesel) (160g ~ 220g) (940g ~ 1300g) 6,100 tons of air pollutants by idling (based on 30 minutes of idling a day per car) are produced each year. When converted this figure into the social cost, it totals 216 billion Won. (Source: National Institute of Environmental Research & KEMCO) Idling diesel car produces 60 times as many NOX (the contributor to photochemical smog and acid rain) as a gasoline car. A diesel car in motion produces 4.7 times as many NOX as a gasoline car. Gasoline cars produce 1.5 times as many CO2, the largest contributor to global warming, as diesel cars. An 2,000cc passenger car produces 860g of CO2 when idling for 10 minutes. (Source: National Institute of Environmental Research & KEMCO)

Differential effect of Eco saving among other brands
- Convenience Competitive product : Driver have to step on brake pedal during 3~5sec. for ISG function. Eco saving : Auto brake function make the drive can detach his foot from the brake pedal after 1.5 sec. - Protect the discharge of battery When the battery voltage drop under 12V, the operation of Eco saving is stopped. - Protect the loss of starter motor Eco saving work only while driving. When the engine keep constant temperature, the starter motor can net be affected. The engine temperature give more effect to the lifespan of starter motor compared with frequency of use - Solve the air conditioner problem in hot summer Air conditioner can keep inner temperature during 50sec. When the engine need to be stopped over 1 minutes, driver can off the Eco saving operation by using safety switch and can use only auto brake function in traffic jam. - Control the engine start and stop by hand brake If the driver get out of a car after on the hand brake, the engine is stopped after 2~3sec. in cargo working time. Also if driver do not use ISG function while over 3 min. idling, the engine is stopped after 3 min. of idling.(Avoid clampdown)
