2
Nonrenewable energy Nonrenewable energy is energy from fossil fuels(coal, wood, uranium, oil) that take millions of years to reproduce, and only have a finite amount in a lifetime.
3
Wood energy: one of the oldest ways to produce energy.
Pros cons Very cheap Regrow to make more The fuel is stable Uses forests waste for the forests health Releases hazardous gases into the atmosphere It takes a lot to build up a company Deforestation and loss of biodiversity Requires a lot of electricty
4
Coal energy: pros cons Abundant supply Inexpensive
Low carbon and can be cleaned Can be a liquid or gas Low investment Nonrenewable Carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere which causes global warming Coal ash is hazardous Emits methane into the environment
5
Oil drilling: pros cons Increasing supplies Energy is self reliant
Supports economic growth Dangerous to the environment Harmful to humans Causes air pollution Expensive to start up a professional business
6
Uranium energy: Pros cons Environmentally friendly source of energy
Abundant supplies Can cause lung cancer Very expensive
7
Renewable Energy Renewable energy is generally defined as energy that is collected from resources which are naturally replenished on a human timescale, such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat.
8
Solar energy: the production of energy through the sun
Pros cons Free and safe No fuel needed Produces no waste or pollution Large panels are expensive Needs a mostly sunny climate Energy must be stored at night
9
Wind energy: production of energy by using the wind
pros cons Free Needs no fuel Produces no waste Doesn’t work without wind Noisy Takes up a lot og space Can kill birds
10
Hydroelectric energy pros cons Clean No pollution
Only works with a big area of water Very expensive Needs a lot of land
11
Geothermal energy pros cons Needs little or no fuel
Small impact on the environment Dangerous gases can come from under the ground
