1 Discussion questions Cynthia yu

2 1. Do you think failure can be a positive thing
1. Do you think failure can be a positive thing? Why have some people have success despite great challenges or dangers?

3 Failure can be useful if people analyze what went wrong and apply their understanding to doing something better. Most people will stop when faced with great challenges or dangers, but others will not because of biological factors involved in risk-taking.

4 2. What are some important things we can learn from failure?

5 The specific things learned from failure will vary with the nature of the particular failure, but in some cases, the goal needs to be adjusted so that it is more reasonable and likely to succeed.

6 3. Based on what you have learned from the article The Nature of Risk, please explain how to become a successful risk-taker.

7 Successful risk-takers must learn to deal with the fear associated with high-risk situations to reduce stress and stay safe. In reality, adapting to risk is something we all learn to do. By practicing a challenging activity, humans can become used to the risk, manage the danger, and control the fear that they feel in those situations.

9 5. What are some health benefits of caffeine?

10 For instance, studies have shown that caffeine can help ease muscle
For instance, studies have shown that caffeine can help ease muscle. Because it is a stimulant, caffeine can also help improve one’s mood. Research has also shown that some caffeinated drinks—specifically certain teas— have disease-fighting chemicals that can help the body fight a number of illnesses, including certain types of cancer. In addition, as a type of mental stimulant, caffeine increases alertness, memory, and reaction speed. Because it fights fatigue, it facilitates performance on tasks like driving, flying, and solving simple math problems.

11 6. What are the pros and cons of the alternative sources of energy?

12 Solar and wind power produce no emissions and are infinitely renewable
Solar and wind power produce no emissions and are infinitely renewable. However, because of cloud and darkness or wind condition, less energy is generated, which requires one to have additional power sources (such as batteries) available. Moreover, solar panels are expensive and wind turbines are ugly and noisy. Nuclear power produces vast amounts of electricity more cheaply than gas or coal, with no carbon emissions. However, there is great concern about nuclear waste storage and disposal and high construction costs.

13 7. What does the author suggest that we do to solve our current energy problems?

14 We can use these sources of energy in some combination
We can use these sources of energy in some combination. Don’t just rely on one source but use several power sources. This way, we may reduce and eventually eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels.
