1 CD Album Cover Analysis
Lindsey Stirling – Shatter Me CD Album Cover Analysis

2 Typography The Main piece of text on the cover is the artist’s name, being the larger font makes it stand out more than the title of the album. The title of the album has a simple and clear font style, where as the artist’s name is in a classical font, making a distinguishable difference between the two pieces of text. Having the larger text for the artist’s name, than the title of the album, makes the artist herself seem more important than the album. The colour of the title is also the same colour of the dress worn by the artist on the album cover, which links the styling of the cover to the title. The spacing of the characters of both the artist’s name and the title of the album is quite large, allowing them to be easily read.

3 Hierarchy The first part of the cover that the audience is drawn to is the artist herself. She is in the centre of the cover which helps to draw the attention of the audience. This is an example of Mulvey’s gaze and how the audience will be drawn towards the attractive woman. The next part of the album that attracts the audience is the glass globe that the artist is inside. The globe has lots of cracks on either side and is about to shatter, relating to the name of the album.

4 Hierarchy Continued The title is of the album and the artist’s name are almost the last few things that will draw attention of the audience. This does not help to advertise the artist herself but having an attention drawing centre of the cover helps to make the album stand out more. The last this that the audience is drawn to is the record player and the fog at the bottom of the globe. The turntable on the record player relates to one of the songs within the album, ‘Round Table Rival’.

5 Globes are considered to be precious to the owner and very fragile
Globes are considered to be precious to the owner and very fragile. The Globe on the cover of the album, ‘Shatter Me’, is cracking and is about to shatter. Both the visible cracks and the title of the album show that the globe is breaking. The artist is playing the violin which is a reference to the music that she performs and the genre of the music. The font of the title and the artists name, along with the violin and ballet dress, are all of a classical theme. The type of music that she creates is very classical but with a modern electronic twist to it.
