Honorable chairs, most esteemed fellow delegates, Covering more than 2/3 of the Earth surface, the oceans are not only rich in natural resources, but a treasure many nations want to lay claim to. Countries have the right to develop resources under the regulation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); however, tension has been escalating due to overlapping of claimed borders in areas such as the Arctic Ocean and the South China Sea. A peaceful negotiation platform must be established to solve the issue. Under the Okinawa Reversion Treaty, Japan rightfully and realistically has the sovereignty of the Senkakus. Concerning the critical situation of piracy, the delegation of Japan will provide any and all appropriate and necessary assistance for vessels from all nations endangered by such crime. Finally, the delegate of Japan sincerely hopes that every country contributes to world peace and the future of human beings.Thank you
