CMX2 Learning Goal # 3 What were the goals of the leaders after ww1? What were the terms of the Treaty of Versailles? What were some main points of Woodrow Wilsons 14 points speech?

2 WW1 Ends After Russia left the war Germany moved their troops from the eastern front (Russian border) to the western front The USA entered the war and brought fresh troops They caused the Germans to retreat The war ended on November 11th, at 11am on 1918 After war, treaties (peace agreements) are signed by all the nations involved.

Leaders Who not invited to peace conference (meeting) Paris Peace Conference took place in Paris in 1919 USA - Woodrow Wilson: Wanted peace Great Britain – David Lloyd George: wanted Germany to Pay France – Georges Clemenceau: wanted revenge and security from Germany France had been invaded twice by Germany strip Germany of all weapons and have them pay for war Italy was there but not considered important Germany was not invited Russia could not come due to Bolshevik revolution

4 Final treaty Fourteen Points Treaty of Versailles
Proposed by President Woodrow Wilson Speech given to congress Wanted lasting peace no secret treaties/alliances Reduce the number of armies/militaries Free trade Freedom of the seas Divide up land based on cultures ethnicities/races Create a group to keep world peace; League of nations One of many peace treaties Germany & Austria- Hungary had to admit guilt for starting war Pay $442 billion in damages Limit the size of their armies No tanks/airplanes allowed Only allowed 2 navy ships No submarines Lose their colonies Lost a lot of land New nations created from land taken away Germany was not happy which would eventually lead to another WAR

5 USA does not join League of nations
After the Peace Conference, Wilson went back to the USA confident Congress would approve the treaty. Congress reflected the views of Americans = The USA did not want to get involved in Europe's problems Congress did not allow the USA to join the League of nations = League of nations was a weak peace keeping organization
