1 Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement
Equivalent Ratio Practice CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.RP.A.3 Students will use an iPad app, Ratio Stadium, to practice recognizing equivalent ratios. SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement Open the app “Ratio Stadium”. Touch the “play” button. Do not use your real name, choose a nickname. Choose start game. The game will begin a countdown to give other students time to join in your game. When it begins you will choose the ratio that is equivalent to the ratio given to you at the bottom of the screen. This task uses: iPads Learning Objective(s): Students will learn to recognize equivalent ratios using a competitive iPad app. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ School: DeQuincy Middle School Louisiana State Standard: CCSS.6.RP.A.3 Grade Level/Subject: 6th grade Math Special Directions/Considerations: Students will be competing against their classmates and others around the world. Anyone online can join their game. Activity Evaluation: Student enjoy the competition and will continue trying to win! Prerequisites for students: Must be able to recognize and create equivalent ratios.

2 A Equivalent Ratio Quiz
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.RP.A.3 Students will use a laptop to complete an online assessment to determine their knowledge of equivalent ratios. AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement. Open Chrome on your laptop and go to Enter your username and password that is in your Quality Folder. Click on the book to enter. Then click the menu tab at the top left and choose Resources. In the drop-down boxes, choose Chapter 1 Lesson 6 in the drop down box. Click on the red check. Click on Self-Check Quiz. The quiz will open in a new tab. Answer the 5 questions in the quiz and then click Check. Record your score in your Quality Folder and bring it to me. You may play “Ratio Stadium” until everyone is finished. Find a partner to discuss your results with. This task uses: Laptops Learning Objective(s): Students will learn to recognize and create equivalent ratios using ratio tables. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ School: DeQuincy Middle School Louisiana State Standard: CCSS.6.RP.A.3 Grade Level/Subject: 6th grade Math Special Directions/Considerations: Students must have login information for McGraw Hill website. Activity Evaluation: This works as a quick formative assessment and allows fun access to technology. Prerequisites for students: Students must have knowledge of equivalent ratios.

3 Ratio Study Guide Collaboration
M Ratio Study Guide Collaboration CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.RP.A.3 or any other standard you are assessing Students will work in small groups to complete a study guide and use “Today’s Meet” to collaborate with classmates and determine solutions. MODIFICATION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable Scan the QR code with your iPad to enter the website. Use your group name to join the meet. In your small group, using your assigned job descriptions, solve problem 1 of your study guide and post your answer in the meeting room. Each group will post a solution. If your group disagrees, ask questions to reach an agreement. If all groups agree to the solution, move on to problem 2 and complete the same steps. Rules for “TodaysMeet” Do not waste time chatting…”lol”, “hey everyone”, “Bob messed this one up”. Follow the group rules and job descriptions (duties). This task uses: iPads Study Guides Learning Objective(s): Students will learn how to create ratio tables, recognize equivalent ratios and determine proportional relationships. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ School: DeQuincy Middle School Louisiana State Standard: CCSS.6.RP.A.3 Grade Level/Subject: 6th grade Math Special Directions/Considerations: It’s helpful to “time” the 1st problem and direct each group to post their answer. Activity Evaluation: Students enjoy chatting through text so you have to keep an eye on what is being said. I keep the meeting room open on my Promethean board. It’s a time consuming activity. Make fewer problems if you plan to do the entire task in 1 class period Prerequisites for students: This activity can be used for any 6th grade standard as a review for an upcoming test.

4 R Create a Ratio Video Topic: Materials: Presentation:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.RP.A.3 Students will work in small groups to create a video explaining a preselected “chunk” of the ratio unit. REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable In your groups, and using your job descriptions, select a ratio topic that you want to teach to other students. (vocabulary, equivalents, ratio tables, graphing ratio tables). Discuss how you plan to teach the topic. Be creative with songs, skits or drawings. Use these headings to make your plans. Use the iPad iMovie app to create your movie. Save it as TOPIC_GROUPNAME_HOUR. Use the Send Anywhere app to transfer your movie to a laptop. Login to Blackboard and upload your video in the Discussion Board titled “Ratio Videos” Watch at least one video from each of the other classes and provide feedback on the Discussion Board. This task uses: Topic: Materials: Presentation: Learning Objective(s): Students will learn how to create videos and collaborate with peers on ratio topics. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ School: DeQuincy Middle School Louisiana State Standard: CCSS.6.RP.3.A Grade Level/Subject: Grade 6 Math Special Directions/Considerations: This is a time consuming activity that could be done on multiple topics. My students have predetermined job titles that cuts down on the confusing…who does what? Activity Evaluation: Excellent way to create and collaborate across classes. Other classes are also required to view videos created by students outside of their class. Prerequisites for students: Ratio knowledge, iMovie and Share Anywhere practice, and Blackboard knowledge.
