2 15 Family Care Councils Supporting Floridians

3 In 1993, the Florida Legislature passed legislation to establish an all volunteer Family Care Council (FCC) to be located in each service area of the Agency for Persons Disabilities (APD) in Chapter , F.S. Each of the 15 FCCs are made up of Governor appointed members. The membership consisting of: Individuals with Developmental Disabilities Parents Guardians Siblings Grandparents

“The purpose of the local family care councils shall be to advise the agency, to develop a plan for the delivery of family support services within the local area, and to monitor the implementation and effectiveness of services and support provided under the plan.

6 The primary functions of the local family care councils shall be to:
Assist in providing information and outreach to families. Review the effectiveness of service programs and make recommendations with respect to program implementation.

Advise the agency with respect to policy issues relevant to the community and family support system in the local area. Meet and share information with other local family care councils. “

8 Our Mission The mission of the Family Care Councils is to advocate, educate, and empower individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, partnering with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), to bring quality services to individuals for dignity and choice.

The Family Care Councils will continue to work with the Florida Legislature to fully fund APD’s Wait List Share with potential foster families the joys of raising a child with special needs Continue to help individuals with disabilities to become fully included in their community Working in collaboration with a variety of stakeholders and agencies
