1. Year 1 News Welcome Back! Goals for Term 2
We hope everyone had a lovely break with their families and are ready to start Term 3 with us. This term we are starting all new units of work in Science, plus we begin our Geography unit as well as Dance and Media Arts.
Goals for Term 2
English: Our writing focus will be on students writing a book review and then presenting their book review to their English class.
Maths:
Number
Counting Patterns - counting forwards and backwards in 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s to 100 from any given number.
Place value for two digit numbers and the different ways you can represent them.
Measurement
Capacity – full, nearly full, half full, nearly empty, empty
Time – using a calendar, duration of time and continue working with analogue and digital clocks with o’clock and half past.
Money – recognising the coins and knowing their value and the order of their value
2D shapes – square, circle etc. how may sides and corners
3D shapes – cube, cone, pyramid etc. how many faces, edges and points
Data – reading a graph, creating their own graph
Chance – if something will, maybe or won’t happen.
Geography: The students will be looking at familiar places and the features of these places. They will be studying the natural, managed and constructed features of a place. The students will then look at how to care for these places and how these places can be changed.
Science: We will be looking at the Day and Night sky and how they change as well as different types of landscapes and how they can change during the day and night sky.

2. Homework
Homework for this term has been placed on the school website under the curriculum tab>junior classes>year 1. Children will still need to get their weekly spelling strategy from their English Teacher. Also a sheet with all 300 sight words has been placed on the website as well.
Parents please remember if you would like to speak to your child’s teacher about English or Maths you will need to make an appointment with their English or Maths Teacher, not their Home Class Teacher.
Reminders
All homework folders are due back every Monday to your child’s English teacher.
Parents if you could please wait at the Tuckshop or the Junior Undercover area until 3:00pm as the children can be quite distracted by you when they are supposed to be working.
If you could please ensure that your child’s clothing is labelled with their first and last name so that it can be returned to them if they misplace it.
Bravehearts payments are now due if these could be paid as soon as possible
