“ Physical, economic and social environments strongly affect individual choices related to healthy eating and active living, key components of obesity and related chronic disease prevention.
Studies show, for example, that if people have access to safe parks they use them and are more physically active. If streets have bike lanes and sidewalks, people are more likely to ride bikes and walk. And when people have access to healthy food in their community they are more likely to eat healthy food. How communities develop the environments in which we live, work, shop, study and play can make it more or less difficult for individuals to choose healthy behaviors.”
