Rules for Mathematicians
Rules are a part of our daily lives. Rules keep order and allow for consistency. We have rules at school, on the road and even for solving math problems where more than one operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) is used within an expression. It is important that all mathematicians solve the problem the same way, or we could all end up getting different answers to the same problem.

PEMDAS Please ( ) Parenthesis Excuse - Exponent My - Multiplication
Dear- Division Aunt- Addition Sally- Subtraction We solve problems in this order. Please note that Multiplication and Division are solved at the same time (left to right) & Addition and Subtraction are solved at the same time (left to right)

Example 3(6+4)+16-8 ÷2 = Solve within the parenthesis.
3(10) ÷2= Solve the division. 3(10) = Solve the multiplication. = Solve the addition and subtraction left to right. 46-4 = 42 Answer = 42
