LOCATION Kumaon or Kumaun is one of the two regions and administrative divisions of Uttarakhand, a mountainous state of northern India, the other being Garhwal. It includes the districts of Almora, Bageshwar,Champawat, Nainital, Pithoragarh, and Udham Singh Nagar. It is bounded on the north by Tibet, on the east byNepal, on the south by the state of Uttar Pradesh, and on the west by the Garhwal region. The people of Kumaon are known as Kumaonis and speak the Kumaoni language.

nainital Nainital is a popular hill station in the Indian state of Uttarakhand and headquarters of Nainital district in the Kumaon foothills of the outer Himalayas. Situated at an altitude of 2,084 metres (6,837 ft) above sea level, Nainital is set in a valley containing a pear-shaped lake, approximately two miles in circumference, and surrounded by mountains, of which the highest are Naina (2,615 m (8,579 ft)) on the north, Deopatha (2,438 m (7,999 ft)) on the west, and Ayarpatha (2,278 m (7,474 ft)) on the south.

ALMORA Almora is a municipal board and a cantonment town in the Almora district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. Almora was founded in 1568.[1] It is the district headquarters of Almora district.[2] It is considered the cultural heart of the Kumaon region Of Uttarakhand. The nearest railway station is Kathgodam 82 km (via Bhimtal), 86 km (via NH 87). Pantnagar Airport is the nearest at 113 km.

kausani Kausani is located 52 km north of Almora. There are very few places in the Himalayas that can compare with the beauty of Kausani - a picturesque hill station famous for its scenic splendour and its spectacular 300 km-wide panoramic view of Himalayanpeaks like Trisul, Nanda Devi and Panchchuli. Kausani lies atop a ridge at an altitude of around 1890 m amidst dense pine trees overlooking Someshwar valley on one side and Garur and Baijnath Katyuri valley on the other on Almora Highway. Mahatma Gandhi called this place the 'Switzerland of India', due to similarity in landscape.

munsiyari Its name refers to a 'place with snow'. Situated on the banks of Goriganga river, it is a fast-growing tourist destination, andmountaineers, glacier enthusiasts, high altitude trekkers and nature lovers commonly use it as their hub or base camp. Munsyari also falls on the ancient salt route from Tibet and is at the entrance of the Johar Valley, which extends along the path of theGauriganga River to its source at the Milam Glacier. It is inhabited mainly by the Shauka tribe.

Jim corbett park Jim Corbett National Park is the Oldest national park in India and was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park to protect the endangered Bengal tiger. It is located in Nainital district of Uttarakhand and was named after Jim Corbett who played a key role in its establishment. The park was the first to come under the Project Tiger initiative.[2]

Culture After harvesting season people mostly relax, rejoice, dance and sing, and thus a festival is generated. At the transition of the sun from one constellation to another Sankranti is observed. Each Sankranti has a fair or festival connected to it somewhere in Kumaon. Fooldeyi, Bikhauti, Harela, Ghee Sankranti, Khatarua, Uttaraini and Ghughutiya are the most-observed Sankranties throughout the region. Other festivals have the bearings in the moon and thus the dates change frequently in the Gregorian Calendar. Basant Panchami, Shiv Ratri, Holi, Samvatsar Parwa, Ram Navami, Dashra, Batsavitri, Rakshabandhan, Janmastmi, Nandastmi, and Deepawali are some of the auspicious occasions.[

experiences I went to Uttarakhand and Kumaun hills in October It was a very peaceful and an exciting tour . Only the 20 hour train journey was a bit tiring as hill stations does not have an airport . It took us 10 days to cover the whole region . The jungles of Corbett is very peaceful and gives knowledge about animals . Almora and Nainital are very well managed hill stations . They have school , courts, etc. There is usually no altitude problems . The hotels there usually have big windows for better view .

Uttarakhand does not have any special dishes or food but the preparation of food in hotels was very good . Kausani has a view of seven mountains which is very good . The sunshine on The seven mountains was the best thing which I liked . The Candle industry of Nainital is famous all over in India for scented candles . There is a Tibetan market also . The scene Is excellent from these hill stations . This was my best trip and a very comfortable tour . .
