After several weeks of a diet based on junk food, there was pleasure centers in the brain of rats, which required more food to get pleasure. After receiving junk food and replacing a healthy diet, the rats were starved for 2 weeks instead of eating nutritious food. In 2007, the British Journal of Nutrition published a study which found that mothers who eat junk food during pregnancy increase the likelihood of unhealthy eating habits in their children. A report published in the Journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology suggests that the children of mothers whose diets contain large amounts of sugar and fat tend to eat junk food. These studies were conducted in rats and suggested that "the children of mothers who eat excessive amounts of fats and sugars during pregnancy or breastfeeding are more likely to prefer this type of food in the next life." The report from 2008 suggests that mothers who eat junk food during pregnancy or lactation period are more prone to obesity.
