8 Course Description Geography is one the oldest fields of study! During the year, we will be studying the physical, political and cultural characteristics of various parts of the world. We will be discussing current events. Students will be expected to voice their opinions and ideas and be able to listen to and respect those of others.

9 Course Objective In this World Geography course, students will…
Students will study the how location, climate, physical features and resources of a place affect its people. Students will examine how people interact with their environment, and how people, goods, and ideas move from place to place. All electronic devices must be put away during tests and quizzes in the Cell Phone Jail at the front of the room. Evidence of electronic devices visible during tests and quizzes will be considered an attempt to cheat and will result in a zero for the assessment.

17 GRADING CRITERIA This course will be assessed via two to three summative grades per marking period, formatives grades from various types of assignments, such as reading guides, vocabulary quizzes, journal writing and map work for each unit. Progress reports will be sent home to all students at the mid‐point of each grading period, and traditional report cards are sent home at the end of each six‐week marking period. If a student is at a 75 or below at the mid-point or end of the six weeks they MAY be assigned to mandatory tutorials during InVest time. Failure to show up for for those tutorials will result in detention and loss of InVest time.

18 ACADEMIC HONESTY Plagiarism is the use of another person’s original ideas or writing as one’s own without giving credit to the true author. This might include copying assignments from another student, copying from a book, or from websites. Plagiarism is cheating, and students who cheat – including those who provide answers as well as those who copy – will be subject to both an academic penalty and punishment for the behavior. For daily assignments or major grades, students will receive a permanent grade of zero and be referred to the Assistant Principal for disciplinary action.
