About the project
Global Bridges Project : Capacity Building:
Teaching the teachers of primary healthcare professionals to treat tobacco dependence.
The IPCRG ‘Teach the Teacher’ initiative:
Building a trusted faculty with the knowledge, influence, communication and teaching skills to deliver effective workshops that are relevant to the local situation, and can be embedded in local primary care.

3. AIM
Project goal: to develop a sustainable network of teachers who will increase the capacity of healthcare professionals working in primary care to treat tobacco dependence. International teachers workshop: to teach a group of teachers from four countries, who are involved in continuing medical education, the skills and knowledge required to develop in-country programmes of education to treat tobacco dependence in primary care (Level 1).

4. AIM
These teachers will then adapt the resources for their own context and develop a programme of in-country workshops for primary care educators (Level 2).
In a third level, primary care educators will deliver education modules to improve knowledge, skills and confidence for treating tobacco dependence in their community, including GPs, FPs, medical assistants, nurses and pharmacists (Level 3).

11. International Teachers Workshop Learning Outcomes
At the end of this workshop the participants will:
Understand the principles of Very Brief Advice (VBA) and how VBA can be adapted in different settings e.g. hospital, GP, pharmacy.
Demonstrate their ability to teach others how to effectively deliver this intervention and be able to design a teaching programme, choose teaching methods and put together a proposal for an in-country programme.
Understand the relative value of specific pharmacotherapy and non-pharmacotherapy interventions, how to prescribe safely and effectively and consider how services can approach prescribing according to what is available in each country. To include use of tools like the carbon monoxide machine to aid behaviour change.
Take an evidence-based position on the use of e-cigarettes in treating tobacco dependency and understand country, European and international regulation currently and how to remain updated.
