Evaluate Prior Learning
Why is it important to look at data?
4
Objectives Identify Need
SCs will experience how data talks (protocols) can be used with TCs when discussing Performance Assessments. SCs will determine which protocols align with specific scenarios that teachers can use to support student learning. Identify Need
5
Data Talk Obtain New Learning Look at the data provided
Step 1: What parts of the data catches your attention? Just the facts please. Note what you can see. Note important points that “pop out”. Look for patterns or trends that emerge. Note surprising or unexpected data. Obtain New Learning
6
Data Talk Continued… Step 2: What does the data tell us?
Generate possible explanations for what the data reveals. What good news is there to celebrate? What are the problems of practice suggested by the data?
7
Data Talk Continued… Step 3: What are the recommendations for next steps? What is the first step to increase TC success in this area? Where do you suggest we go from here?
8
Based on the Data Talk… What Questions do you still have about the Indicators in the TAP rubric? List 3 (One on each Post-It) Put a star on the post-it that you would be comfortable leading a discussion in

What are protocols? Develop New Learning
Protocols are structured processes and guidelines to promote meaningful, efficient communication, problem solving, and learning. Protocols give time for active listening and reflection, and ensure that all voices in the group are heard and honored. Using protocols appropriately in meetings with colleagues, students, parents, and others helps you build the skills and the culture necessary for productive collaborative work. National School Reform Faculty
Harmony Education Center Why use them? Time protected for active listening and silent reflection Equity and parity are emphasized and valued so all voices will be heard Participants feel safe to ask difficult questions and give and receive honest feedback Focus on specific pieces of work or dilemmas, in an honest attempt to address and resolve “the elephants in the room” Participants gain differing perspectives and leave feeling empowered and optimistic, with actionable next steps
11
Apply New Learning Protocol Matching
Scan the protocols on the Methods for Learning From Student Work document Read your group’s scenario and jot down your thoughts about which protocol(s) might be useful to the teacher. Be prepared to share which protocol(s) you chose and why. Apply New Learning

Objective Check: Evaluate New Learning
SCs will experience how data talks (protocols) can be used with TCs when discussing Performance Assessments. SCs will determine which protocols align with specific scenarios that teachers can use to support student learning. Evaluate New Learning
