4 Purpose of the Sample Tasks Resource Guide
The GaDOE and Questar have developed a new resource for teachers who assess students through the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA). The Sample Tasks Resource Guide (Guide) is designed to support educators in their implementation and understanding of the content standards and in the creation of high-quality assessment tasks. The editions of the Guide include new items which supplement existing resources such as the GAA Examiner’s Manual, GAA Student Samples Resource Guide, GAA Blueprint & Standards documents, and the state content standards themselves.

5 Purpose of the Sample Tasks Resource Guide
There are no new requirements for the program or the creation of student portfolios. The Sample Tasks Resource Guide is published in separate elementary, middle school, and high school editions, or: Kindergarten and Grades 3–5 Grades 6–8 High School All editions are posted on the GAA Resources webpage at:

6 Structure of the Sample Tasks Resource Guide
Samples in the Guide are individual tasks, not full entries. Use of these tasks does not guarantee that an entry will be scorable. All four tasks in every entry must align to the content standard and element/indicator. All entries must meet all of the administrative requirements of the GAA (evidence collected within the administration window; Entry Sheets completed correctly; two distinct collection periods; documentation of student’s grade, level of prompting, setting, and interactions). For more information, please refer to the Georgia Examiner’s Manual and the resources on the GaDOE website (see slide 2).

7 Structure of the Sample Tasks Resource Guide
Each sample task in the Resource Guide includes a summary page which describes the task and the requirements of the content standard and element/indicator. There are also: descriptions of the materials the teacher used when the student was performing the assessment task a brief list of websites which may be useful to teachers who want to adapt the task for their students Please remember: Materials should be chosen and/or adapted to suit the needs of individual students. Third-party websites are provided for informational purposes only. Reference to any website does not constitute an endorsement of products, services or opinions. Websites will be verified and updated as frequently as possible, but at times links to websites may become inactive or content may be altered.

10 Reminders about scorability of GAA tasks
Tasks which align to the content standard and element/indicator may not be scorable if the administrative requirements of the GAA are not met. Please be careful to insure that all tasks in all entries satisfy the rules of the assessment, which include: Each Entry Sheet must be completed correctly and in its entirety. Content standards must be chosen from the correct grade (e.g., a Grade 8 standard for a Grade 8 student) All evidence must be collected within the administration window (September 6, 2016 – March 24, 2017). Collection Period 1 Primary Evidence must be collected at least 14 calendar days before Collection Period 2 Primary Evidence is collected. Both pieces of Collection Period 1 evidence must be collected before either piece of Collection Period 2 evidence is collected. Evidence must be marked with a letter or percentage grade. Type and frequency of prompting must be noted. People who worked with the student on the task and the location of the task should be noted.
