1 What is Physical Science?
Chapter 1 section 1 What is Physical Science?

2 What is Physical Science?
Science – is the study of the natural world. Scientist use skills of 1) observing 2) inferring 3) predicting to learn more about the natural world.

3 Observing Observing – using one or more senses to gather information.

4 Inferring Inferring – explaining your observations or making an inference. Inference are based on what you already know. Example: If your teacher comes in carrying a stack of paper, you may infer that the papers may be a surprise quiz.

5 Predicting Predicting – means making a forecast of what will happen in the future based on past experience or evidence. For example: Some scientists predict the weather based on past experience or information. Weather is based on data, it is a prediction.

7 Branches of Physical Science
Chemistry – is the study of the properties of matter and how matter changes. Physics – is the study of matter, energy, motion, and forces and how they interact.

8 Review 1. What are inferences based on?
Inferences are based on reasoning from what you already know. What is physics? The study of matter and energy and how they interact. Name three skills that scientists use to learn more about the natural world. Observing, inferring, predicting
