belatedly in a late, delayed, or tardy way
My friend wished me happy birthday rather belatedly. Mrs. Popper had to wash the dishes rather belatedly due to all of the excitement from the morning.

stupor stupor- in a dream-like state of mind
The penguin was in a stupor because he was so lonely. After being awakened by the storm, the man walked to the window in a stupor to see what was going on.

dreaded waited for something with fear
After not studying, I dreaded seeing what I made on my test. The penguin dreaded riding on the bus.

unwearyingly not in a tired way
The penguin continued to go up and toboggan down the steps unwearyingly while Mr. Popper laid down at the bottom, tired of chasing him! The toddler ran unwearyingly around and around the couch.

astonishment surprised
The family looked on in astonishment as they discovered what the penguin had done. The students shared a look of astonishment when the teacher cancelled the test.

rotogravure a process of printing
The Germans invented a printing process called rotogravure. Rotogravure is a printing process invented over one hundred years ago.

tremendous wonderful The penguin felt tremendous after the curator’s surprise arrived. The student’s work was tremendous, and I displayed it outside!

The family was very sympathetic to Captain Cook’s needs. The teacher was not very sympathetic because the students didn’t study.

Mrs. Popper began to reproach the penguin for his behavior. My sister reproached me for the mess that was left in the living room.

elegant graceful The penguin was elegantly across the stage.
The dancer was very elegant as she twirled across the stage.

scarcely Hardly Mr. Popper had scarcely any money left because of the modifications that he made to the icebox. The penguin scarcely had any fish left after eating most of them for lunch.

It is customary for penguins to live in cold areas. As students, it is customary for us to copy our agendas at the beginning of class.
