US Army Chemical Corps One of the 17 basic branches of the Army
Proponent for Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) Defense The Chemical Corps’ Goals are: Minimize the effect of enemy NBC weapon use Employ smoke and flame to enhance the combat power of tactical land forces.

US Army Chemical Corps Focused primarily on warfighting operations and training in support of NBC defense; smoke, flame, and obscurant employment; biological and chemical arms control; NBC technology development and management; and weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and force protection. Plan, employ, coordinate, and control NBC defense systems in support of joint and combined operations. These systems include the FOX, BIDS, WOLF, MDS, and in the future, CBRIDS and SAFEGUARD UAV.

US Army Chemical Corps Unique Features of work in Chemical Branch
Lead NBC defense units at platoon, company, battalion and brigade level within battalions, brigades, divisions, and corps. Man staffs at battalion, brigade, division , corps and CINC level Develop NBC defense and smoke doctrine and procedures Develop NBC defense staff estimates Plan, coordinate, and employ smoke, flame, decontamination, and reconnaissance assets in support of maneuver operations Work in NBC research and development Instruct in ROTC, USMA, and TRADOC schools Serve as advisor to reserve component units Support Homeland Defense and Domestic Preparedness

US Army Chemical Corps Skills, Knowledge, and Attributes
As a staff officer, be able to analyze data rapidly and make decisions/recommendations under stress. In addition to mastery of chemical branch skills, must know the critical skills of the units to which they are assigned and how to integrate NBC defense for those units. Must develop and maintain a keen understanding of maneuver operations at the tactical, operational, and strategic level. Officers must be warfighters who are physically fit and maintain high standards. Must be multifunctional and be able to develop the skill sets necessary to perform a multitude of missions.

US Army Chemical Corps Company Grade Officer Developmental Assignments
Newly commissioned officers attend the Officer Basic Course at the US Army Chemical School, FT Leonard Wood, MO. - OBC provides students with their initial entry NBC defense training. - OBC prepares lieutenants to lead chemical platoons and to serve as battalion chemical officers. - All students receive training on the latest equipment and undergo live agent training in the Chemical Defense Training Facility.

US Army Chemical Corps Opportunities for Lieutenants
Attend Airborne, Air Assault, and Ranger training if their follow-on assignment requires it. Serve as a combat or combat support Battalion Chemical Officer - Plan and conduct all types of training for your unit - Manage training resources for the battalion - Conduct command inspections - Tactical Operations Center (TOC) shift officer during all field exercises. - Deploy to a combat training center - Deploy to real-world contingency operations Serve as a platoon leader in Smoke, Decon, Chemical Recon, and Biological Detection platoons and companies.

US Army Chemical Corps Who are we looking for?
Those with bachelor’s degrees in any discipline. Chemistry and Biology are not qualifiers for the Chemical Corps. We need multifunctional operators. Those who want to develop skill sets that are marketable in the civilian sector (EPA, Emergency Management and Response, Research & Development, HomeLand Defense, HAZMAT Response). Those who want to be on the cutting edge of NBC defense for the 21st Century Army.
