Excel for ASI: Basics Export reports: Comma vs Tab What is a delimiter? When you choose a delimiter, you are choosing a character that marks where your data separates into columns

4 Export reports: Comma, open w/Excel
Excel for ASI: Basics Export reports: Comma, open w/Excel + Typically CSV defaults to “Open with” Excel + No additional steps if data has no leading zeros +/- Commas in data are stripped

5 Export reports: Tab, open w/Excel
Excel for ASI: Basics Export reports: Tab, open w/Excel + Not usually default for .txt but can “Open with” Excel + No additional steps if data has no leading zeros + Commas in data are preserved

6 Export reports: Tab, Save File
Excel for ASI: Basics Export reports: Tab, Save File Save as Tab (txt), start Excel, File > Open to select the TXT file Text Import Wizard pops up automatically Delimited > Tab > (select columns) Text > Finish Leading zeros and commas are preserved Note: opening a CSV file this way will not bring up the Text Import Wizard. To use a CSV file in Excel and preserve the leading zeros and commas, in Excel, you can go to Data > Get External Data > From Text… and follow the same concept, just a few more steps than this method.
