Publicity Involves bringing newsworthy information about an organization to the public’s attention. Main function is to develop a positive perception or awareness of the organization in the marketplace. It is not paid for by a business, this makes it more credible. It cannot be controlled

Public Relations Activities that help an organization influence a target audience.
Goodwill generated creates these benefits: increased sales reinforcing good reputation spreading accurate info increasing receptivity to advertising conditioning customers to expect quality products reducing impact of problems helping obtain better treatment from gov’t

Employee Relations Public relations staff works with management to create programs that foster loyalty and motivation in employees Programs include: tuition reimbursement, newsletters for and about employees, health & wellness programs, promotional programs from within, employee suggestion & recognition awards

Customer Relations Customer advisory boards are panels of consumers who make suggestions about products and businesses Programs such as: child-care, gift wrapping, check-cashing, fax & copy machines free delivery, reinforce good customer relations

Consumer Affairs Specialists
are employed to handle customer complaints and to serve as advocates within the firm

Community Relations Refers to the activities that a business uses to acquire or maintain the respect of the community Examples include sponsoring Special Olympics, awarding scholarships, matching employee donations Encourage employee participation in community organizations
