APE – The Region The Forte da Casa is a 4.78 km ² village in the county of Vila Franca de Xira It is adjacent to the Tagus river and about 10 kilometers from Lisbon Presently, Forte da Casa has about 12,600 people, 19% of which come originally from overseas. Density: / km ²

APE – The Tagus Estuary The Tagus estuary is the largest in Europe and is a national and European heritage of inestimable value. It has a wet area ranging between 300 and 350Km2, depending on the tide Activities in the estuary were related to the exploitation of its natural resources, such as fishing, production of oysters and other shellfish and salt extraction The Tagus Estuary is used as a "nursery" for various fish species and countless seabirds

APE – The Tagus Estuary During the winter is one of the largest bird sanctuaries across Europe More than twenty species are endangered and protected by international conventions

APE – The Tagus Estuary In winter, the Flamingos population is around 2,000 individuals, mainly at Pancas zone and in the salt of Samouco

APE – The School The educational unit of Forte da Casa comprises three schools for different levels of education (cluster), ranging from the first grade to the 12th On the whole, this educational unit involves about 2400 students, 200 teachers and 60 employees The Portuguese educational system covers 12 years of schooling and students between 6 and 18 years old

APE – The School This educational unit has students from over twenty different nationalities, mainly from the former portuguese colonies, such as: Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau but also from Brazil, Ukraine, Romania, Moldavia, Pakistan, India, Russia, Algeria, China, East Timor
