1 IMPACT SAMR Cover Sheet
Teacher: Yvonne Colonna 8.F.1 Understand that a function is a rule that assigns to each input exactly one output. The graph of a function is the set of ordered pairs consisting of an input and the corresponding output. Task Overview Learning Objective(s) Suggested Technology The students use the Educreations app to create a whiteboard presentation that shows the four representations of a function (function rule, table of values, verbal model, and graph). Select a function rule (equation). Use the function rule to make a table of values. Write a verbal model of the function rule. Graph the function rule. Ipad Educreations app The students will create Quizlet cards using the vocabulary from the chapter on functions. Define the vocabulary words from the chapter on functions. Create Quizlet cards. Design a Quizlet test for the class to use. Quizlet app Using an online calculator, the student will create two scatter plots, one that is a function and one that is not a function, and compare the two plots. Write the ordered pairs from two mapping diagrams, one that is a function and one that is not a function. Review the definition and characteristics of a function given a graph. Explain which scatter plot is a function and which is not a function. Desmos online graphing calculator. The students will graph linear function rules by hand on graph paper and check with a graphing calculator. Graph linear equations on graph paper. Use graphing calculator to check graphs. Graphing Calculator REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable. transformation MODIFICATION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable. AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement. enhancement SUBSTITUTION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with no real change.

2 Can You Graph a Function Rule?
S Can You Graph a Function Rule? The students will graph linear function rules by hand on graph paper and check with a graphing calculator. SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement Work with a partner to graph two function rules each. On a sheet of graph paper, write your name first, then your partner’s name and draw a 10X10 coordinate plane. Select two linear equations and graph using slope-intercept form. Exchange papers with your partner. Use a graphing calculator to check your partner’s graphs. 6. Enter the equations into the calculator using y1 and y2. 7.Use ZOOM 6 to match the paper coordinate plane. 8.Compare the graph paper to the calculator screen. 9. If needed help your partner correct his graph. This task uses: Graph paper Rulers Graphing calculator Learning Objective(s): The students will graph linear function rules. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Yvonne School:SJ Welsh Louisiana State Standard: 8.F.1 Understand that a function is a rule that assigns to each input exactly one output. The graph of a function is the set of ordered pairs consisting of an input and the corresponding output. Grade Level/Subject: 8/Pre-algebra Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students: graphing linear equations using point-slope form, function vocabulary

3 Function or Not a Function?
Using an online calculator, the student will create two scatter plots, one that is a function and one that is not a function, and compare the two plots. AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement. 1. Select a set of mapping diagrams, Use the mapping diagrams and write the ordered pairs represented in each mapping. Use the Desmos online graphing calculator app and graph a scatter plot for each mapping. Review the definition and characteristics of a function given a graph. 5. Explain which scatter plot is a function and which is not a function. This task uses: Desmos online graphing calculator Ipad Learning Objective(s): The student will determine whether a relation is a function. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Yvonne School: SJ Welsh Louisiana State Standard:8.F.1 Grade Level/Subject: 8/prealgebra Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students: definitions of relations and functions

4 M What is My Name? The students will create Quizlet cards using the vocabulary from the chapter on functions. MODIFICATION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable Define the vocabulary words from section 6-1 and 6-2 in your textbook. Use an Ipad and the Quizlet app to design vocabulary flash cards. Your title should be “your name” Function Vocabulary. Input your vocabulary word on one side and the definition on the back side. After the word and its definition are completed, search the internet to find images for the vocabulary words. Insert the images. Set the Quizlet set so that it can be shared. Design a test for your Quizlet set. Take a Quizlet Test that another student designed. This task uses: Ipad Quizlet app Learning Objective(s): The learner will learn the vocabulary associated with functions. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Yvonne School: SJ Welsh Louisiana State Standard: 8.F.1 Grade Level/Subject: 8/prealgebra Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students: vocabulary knowledge

5 R A Function Four Ways The students use the Educreations app to create a whiteboard presentation that shows the four representations of a function (function rule, table of values, verbal model, and graph). REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable You and your partner select one the function rules. Collaborate with your partner to design a table of values, verbal model, and a graph for your function rule. Use Educreations to record and show the four different representations of your function rule. Upload your recording to the class Blackboard site under Function Lesson with your names. After all recordings are complete, view them and comment on two other recordings. This task uses: Ipad Educreation app Blackboard Learning Objective(s): The students will be able to represent functions as equations, table of values, and graphs. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Yvonne Colonna School: SJ Welsh Louisiana State Standard: 8.F.1 Grade Level/Subject: 8/prealgebra Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students: knowledge of the four representations of a function
