2 Facts His epochal book, On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres, published in 1543 just before his death, is often regarded as the starting point of modern astronomy and the defining epiphany that began the scientific revolution. Became a landmark in history , known as the Copernican Revolution. Among the great polymaths of the Renaissance, Copernicus was a mathematician, astronomer, physician, quadrilingual polyglot(speaks more than one language), Classical scholar, translator, artist, Catholic cleric, jurist, governor, military leader, diplomat and economist.

4 Accomplishments Won the 1921 Nobel prize in Physics.
He is best known for his theories of special relativity(that all uniform motion is relative, and that there is no absolute and well-defined state of rest ) and general relativity.

5 Tid Bits Became a Swiss Citizen(1901) ,earlier studied to be a Physics and mathematics teacher at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich. After WWII he renounced his German citizenship and became a U.S. citizen and became a Professor of Theoretical Physics at Princeton. Was offered the Presidency of the State of Israel, but declined and established the Hebrew University Of Jerusalem with Dr. Chaim.
