Warmest Winter on record
March Winter 2015/16 was a record breaking season for the UK. The latest end of month statistics show it was provisionally the warmest winter for England and Wales since the record series began in 1910, while it was the third-warmest for the UK as a whole. The warmth has been most notable in the south of the UK with mean temperatures across much of the area more than 2C above average. In the Central England Temperature record series, the longest temperature record in the world dating back to 1659, this winter has been the second-warmest at 6.7C, just behind the previous record of 6.8C set 1869.

EU referendum 23rd June: what effects on Energy?
Good & Bad EU policy can override national policy Good - EU directive on buildings performance - EU funding - European Regional Development Fund etc - Environmental legislation - Climate Change Policy -Opportunities to share best practice with other EU organisations/LAs - More committed to environment e.g. European Covenant of Mayors and targets - EU consumer laws – includes compensation for flight delays Bad - Restrictive procurement rules - Additional layers of bureaucracy - Easy to lose the national perspective in the wider picture -Fines and penalties for UK for non compliance of EU legislation -Not a level playing field – some EU countries not playing by the rules

Should EMCAN adopt new name?

CAN Executive CAN becomes ALEO Association of Local Energy Officers
The Association of Local Energy Officers (ALEO) is the new identity of the Carbon Action Network. ALEO is a not-for-profit organisation supporting local government officers and housing professionals with a remit for reducing all aspects of the UK’s domestic-sector carbon footprint and tackling fuel poverty.
17
Reboot of the network to ALEO
Concern that changing to ‘Energy Officers’ would overlap with remit of the NEA Concern as associations have a specific definition, which will reduce the attraction to the majority of the officers, who only have part of their job description relating to energy A lot of member are not labelled as ‘Energy Officers’, for example we have a Public Health Officer with Fuel Poverty as part of their remit ALEO is too specific and will put off a number of members as they are not solely Energy Officers
18
Adopting EMALEO or ALEOEM?
Pros Shows unity with rest of ALEO network Will be easier to engage with DECC, OFGEM if all regions have same identity Less confusing for future sponsors at both local and national level Cons EMCAN weren’t in favour of changing name to ALEO Could potentially put off relevant officers Unfamiliarity with new branding
