Gigabit Ethernet - 1000BASE-T
In a departure from both 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T uses all four cable pairs for simultaneous transmission in both directions through the use of adaptive equalization and a 5-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM-5) technique

10/100 - Cabling The standard on copper twisted pair is IEEE 802.3ab for Cat 5e UTP cable|UTP, or 4D-PAM5; four dimensions using PAM (pulse amplitude modulation) with five voltages, −2V, −1V, 0V, +1V, and +2V While +2V to −2V voltage may appear at the pins of the line driver, the voltage on the cable is nominally +1V, +0.5V, 0V, −0.5V and −1V.

6
Pulse amplitude modulation - Generation of PAM
These are all come under pulse amplitude modulation..
7
Pulse amplitude modulation - Types
There are two types of pulse amplitude modulation:
8
RZI The zero between each bit is a neutral or rest condition, such as a zero amplitude in pulse amplitude modulation (PAM), zero Phase (waves)|phase shift in phase-shift keying (PSK), or mid-frequency in frequency-shift keying (FSK).
