What is a PREDICATE NOMINATIVE?
SUBJECT PRONOUNS Sarah went to the store. -or SHE went to the store. That is easy enough. But “subject” pronouns are also used as PREDICATE NOMNIATIVES. What is a PREDICATE NOMINATIVE?

Predicate Nominatives
A predicate nominative is a noun or PRONOUN in the predicate that renames the subject. A whale is a mammal. The only people in the line were they. Angela has become a very talents soloist. Do you know if it was _____? I thought is was ______. The winner of the marathon is _____. That was not _____. Can the valedictorian be _______? ALL of these answers MUST be in the NOMINATIVE (or subject) case: he, she, it, we, they

OBJECT PRONOUNS Object pronouns are often a little easier to identify. They must be used as OBJECTS within the sentence. They can be: DIRECT OBJECTS INDIRECT OBJECTS OBJECTS OF THE PREPOSITION
5
Direct and Indirect Objects
How to find a direct object: Does your sentence have an ACTIVE verb? If yes, proceed. If no, you DO NOT have a Direct Object. After your ACTIVE verb, ask “WHAT”? If you have an answer, you have a DIRECT OBJECT. Lucy visited Shawn. Germs cause illness. They were taking snapshots. They saw Liang and _____ at the fair. Julia said that she recognized _____ at once. Has anyone called _____ lately? They took _____ to the concert. Thelma often visits Charlene and _____. ALL of these answers are DIRECT OBJECTS and therefore, the pronouns required are in the OBJECTIVE case: me, him, her, it, them
6
Direct and Indirect Objects
Indirect Objects can ONLY be in sentences that have Direct Objects. So, if you have a DIRECT OBJECT, ask “to whom” or “for whom” and if you have an answer, you have an INDIRECT OBJECT. My little sister sang me a song. Natalie knitted her friend a sweater. Mrs. Petratos offered _____ delicious cake. Show Yolanda and _____ your pictures. Sara made Dad and _____ mittens and scarves. My parents told _____ the news. Do you remember the OBJECT PRONOUN choices that you can use here?

Objects of the Preposition
Essentially, objects of the prepositions are the last word in a prepositional phrase. Talk over your problems with Sara. I addressed cards to my friends. I am worried about the teacher. She is always very nice to _____. The coaches rode in a bus in front of _____. First prize was shared by Jen and _____. May I play with you and _____.

And, finally, POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS
They show possession. That is MY book. That book is MINE. That is YOUR coat. That coat is YOURS. HIS car is red. HER car is black.
