Climate Change By Lena Nielsen, Patricia Suhrke, Emily Fedor and Robin Broekhuizen

2 Light from the sun hits the earth

3 Some of this light is absorbed and turned to heat
Some of this light is absorbed and turned to heat. the heat is trapped by the greenhouse gasses.

4 Greenhouse Gases then trap the heat on earth
Greenhouse Gases then trap the heat on earth.. This is what we call the greenhouse effect! 

5 when we burn fossil fuels we produce green house gases 

6 One of the main greenhouse gasses we produce and traps heat is carbon dioxide.
CO2

7 Some of this heat escapes and goes back into space, but since there are more gasses in the atmosphere, less escapes now. CO2

8 Way more people than in the past have started… Using electricity, driving cars and heating homes - this requires fossil fuels to be burned, and when fossil fuels are burned, we create carbon dioxide. Burning fossil fuels to create electricity to power buses, airplanes, cars, to cook with, to heat homes etc. Because of the high amount of fossil fuels being used, the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is higher than in the past. Fossil Fuels

9 There are more people on earth than ever before!

10 We are putting more greenhouse gases in our atmosphere

11 As we produce more greenhouse gasses, more heat gets trapped and the earth gets hotter – climate change.

12 Since there is more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the average temperature of the earth has increased.

13 Droughts/heat waves (when there’s no rain and it’s too hot)
CONSEQUENCES of climate change Droughts/heat waves (when there’s no rain and it’s too hot) Floods Hurricanes/storms Serious effects on flora and fauna (plants and animals)

14 Trees eat carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and turn it into oxygen, but there are fewer trees on earth than ever before. People around the world are cutting down trees to make room for farmland, to build with, to burn, and more.

15 Deforestation (forests being cut down)

16 Evidence on the glacier

17 Droughts and heat waves
No water = no crops = no animals = NO PEOPLE!

18 If the glaciers melt, the glacier water will make the sea level rise.

19 … and that means flooding!
Say goodbye to islands and coastlines – England, the Maldives, California…

20 Storms, tornados, weird weather.

21 The Glacier trip Evidence: Scratches Terminal moraine Boulders Loose rocks Streams Less ice

22 Danger to flora (plants) and fauna (animals)!
